I am joining thousands of other cyclists and the American Lung Association to raise money to fight lung disease and increase awareness about the importance of lung health.

Lung disease can take someone's breath away, leaving them unable to work, exercise or play. Growing faster than almost any other major illness, lung disease, including lung cancer, asthma and emphysema is the third leading cause of the death in the United States.

Currently, we have 21 students at Scenic Park who have been diagnosed with asthma, which is about 5.5% of our school population. Asthma is a leading chronic disease in children. Based on a 2022 report, there are approximately 4.8 million children under the age of 18 living with asthma.

As many of you know, I am an avid cyclist and by participating in this event, I hope to raise money to support the lung association in their mission to improve lung health and prevent lung disease through research, education, and advocacy, and to also highlight the importance of living a healthy lifestyle to my students.
