This year, not only will I ride in honor of my late husband, Sam, I also will ride in honor of my parents. My mom has lived with asthma most of her life, probably a result of a combination of things - secondhand smoke from my grandfather and growing up in a farming community near Hanford - and maybe family genes. My father has suffered from severe heart problems including COPD for over 40 years, mostly due to genetics, and also because his father was a chemist at the sugar factory and a farmer. We have no idea all the chemicals my dad and his siblings were exposed to over the years. What we do know, though, boggles the mind as all of them suffer from some type of health issue.
COVID affected several of my friends and relatives who I also ride for this year. Luckily, I did not lose anyone to this terrible disease, but several of my friends and family had close calls with lingering issues that will probably affect them for the rest of their lives. Their lungs will never be the same.
The money I raise this year will go towards education and research to help save lives and give those impacted by lung cancer and disease the ability to life to the fullest best as they can.
Lung disease can take someone's breath away, leaving them unable to work, exercise or play. Growing faster than almost any other major illness, lung disease, including lung cancer, asthma and emphysema is the third leading cause of the death in the United States.
Please join me in my efforts to make a difference by making a personal or corporate tax-deductible donation. Every dollar counts in this fight.
Thank you in advance for you support!
