Lung disease comes in many forms and does not discriminate. I have friends who have lost loved ones. I have family members who have lost loved ones. All by no fault of their own. Each person has a story worth sharing.
I will ride 100 miles to honor Elizabeth Hansen. She was my sister in law, and also my friend. Elizabeth and my saint of a brother, Nick, were together ~15 years before she lost her battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis in November 2020. Having been diagnosed years prior to them meeting, she was given little to no chance of survival. The fact she far exceeded that timeline is a testament to her strong will and fight!
Elizabeth had a zest for life. She's the sassiest person who said all the things you were thinking, but unwilling to say. Her sense of humor and ability to get people talking made her a joy to be around. It was difficult to see her struggle in the later years, though she always made the best of every situation.
She passed away at age 51, far too young. I will ride because she never got the chance. It won't be easy, it may cause some aches and pains. But should I cross the finish line, it will be all worth it!
