Hello, and welcome to my Reach The Beach fundraising page.
I am excited to return to my favorite event on the cycling calendar after a 3-year absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Reach The Beach is a one-day, 100-mile ride organized by the American Lung Association that supports lung health and clean air initiatives, two causes I care deeply about. This year 3,000 riders will tackle a new route that starts on Portland's Sauvie Island and finishes under the Astoria-Megler Bridge on the Oregon coast.
I am dedicating this year's ride to my uncle, Robert "Bob" Rand, who passed peacefully in January 2023.
He was a humble, kind, and gentle man. Family and friends knew him as a doting son, big brother, and loving husband. Others remembered him as an Eagle Scout, engineer, mentor, marathoner, Westie rescuer, and cheeseburger-and-Diet-Pepsi aficionado.
To me, he was a beloved uncle who came to my youth hockey games and nurtured my early interest in bicycles, reading, and travel.
Over the course of four previous Reach The Beach rides, I've helped raise more than $7,500 for the American Lung Association. Not surprisingly, some of those funds were from Bob himself. For these reasons and more, I'm spinning this one in his memory and I hope to make 2023 the most successful year yet.
Please join me in my effort to make a difference by making a personal or corporate tax-deductible donation.
Thank you in advance for your support!
