Hello family and friends,
I am riding Reach the Beach this year in memory of my dear friend Rory who lost his battle with lung cancer on Dec 12, 2017 just 3 days after his 59th birthday, and only 10 months after his diagnosis. Rory handled the highs and lows of cancer with grace and humor, and inspired me to "do something" about lung cancer.
As he dealt with the uncertain and unnerving world of chemotherapy, radiation, immuno therapy and all of the other un-fun things that go along with fighting for your life, I signed up for Reach the Beach because surely I could get uncomfortable on my bike for 104 miles and raise as much money as possible to help fund cancer research (Rory was passionate about immuno therapy - it needs to become a mainstream treatment now!). One pedal at a time, please help me and all of my teammates ride for a better tomorrow.
Lung cancer is the top cancer killer of both men and women, and is becoming more and more prevalent in non-smokers.
