February 21, 2014, we lost our beloved mother to metastatic breast cancer. It was the most devastating day of our lives. The day after our mother passed, our family signed up for the Clean Air Challenge, creating Team Renate Schnell. This was a ride and event that meant a lot to our mom. Every year, it happens on or around mother's day weekend. This is also the week of our mom's birthday. She participated in this event every year, until she was rediagnosed with cancer. She wanted, very badly, to ride in this event again. She began riding in honor of her own mother whom she lost to lung disease.
Losing our mother was not something I thought I would ever survive..... but somehow our family was lifted up by so many people who joined us to ride and participate in this event in her honor and memory. You ALL lifted us up and surrounded us with LOVE & HOPE. This is something I know my mom would be so grateful for, she never wanted her children to be alone. She was such an optomistic person and she did not want us to give up on hope and fighting cancer. She fought cancer until the end and was alway hopefully for a cure and always wanted to help and encourage those that were fighting along with her.
I believe our mother is smiling down on us from heaven, to date her TEAM raised over $155,000 for the American Lung Association. We had people from all over the world supporting us and this wonderful cause. You have know idea how you ALL lifted our family up from our darkest days....Thank you for that and thank you for donating and participating in this wonderful event.
We would like nothing more than to ride with all of you again this year.....Go Team Renate Schnell.
We have joined the Lung Association and the fight against lung disease.
You can join us and ride or you can make a donation to the American Lung Association in Alaska and help raise money to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease.
