2020 has been an unusual year. Training rides have been solo for the most part and our ride was postponed till September. Recently due to COIVID our ride has been canceled as a large event. I’ve decided along with a couple team members, from Pedal to the Medal, this Sat. Aug. 15th to go out and pedal. We are hoping to do the 100 miles!! We have successfully done 100 miles each year since the American Lung has had the 100 mile 1 day option. I've been riding for the American lung for 17 years and it is a near and dear passion of mine. Both my parents were smokers and their lungs were compromised from an early age. My Dad (Dale Gordon) passed in 2010 and Mom (Marilyn Dresnek) in 2013. Along with losing both my parents at early ages, I also have Exercise Induced Asthma and continually battle lung issues. I have been an athlete all my life and never smoked!!! My Mom and Dad both quit smoking later in life, which I think, actually prolonged the time they had here on earth. Every year I pound the pavement trying to raise as much money as I can to help the American Lung help others with lung problems. This year added to our usual reasons we ride is the COVID. Some of the funds we raise will help with research ref. COVID. I ride in memory of both my parents, my husbands mother Naomi Johnson, his sister Shelly Johnson, Virginia Penny, our “Yuma Momma” and several other family and friends that have had lung problems. Having asthma, not being able to breathe properly is awful. The American Lung Association helps many people from the very young to our seniors. My team Pedal to the Medal and I ride hard for all of those folks who can't ride and in memory of several. Each one of my teammates and I either have experienced lungs problems as asthma, or have had a loved one or friend die from lung problems. Please help us make a difference by making a donation any amount you can afford to the American Lung Association in Alaska help raise money to save lives by improving lung health, pre venting lung disease and research for COVID. COVID is a disease that affects the lungs especially those with compromised lungs.
