Every Mile Counts

We have a new route!

Join us on a mission to make a difference for everyone who breathes. We are very excited to announce that on May 20, 2023, we will be riding to Astoria! The new route starts on Sauvie Island and ends at the Astoria-Megler Bridge. There will be four ride lengths: 100m, 65m, 32m, 10m, and the option to Cycle Your Way. This bike ride is perfect as a personal challenge, an opportunity to explore a new route to the coast, and a way to stay active. The in-person and Cycle Your Way options both have amazing support throughout the campaign! We provide superb organization, beautiful routes, numerous social events, regular training challenges, excellent fundraising support, and more!

Reach the Beach OR will celebrate its 33rd anniversary in 2023. Our mission: to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease is still in hyper-drive. The dollars our riders are raising are making a difference at this critical time.

Reach the Beach OR encourages our cyclists to stay active and enjoy time on their bike while supporting the work of the American Lung Association. Please review the details below regarding how you can participate.

  • Ride in Person: By selecting one of our four breathtaking route options. We are excited to be cycling to the ocean front at Astoria in 2023. Join us for one of the best supported rides in the PNW and enjoy an unforgettable finish line experience by the Astoria-Megler bridge. A registration fee applies to all in-person registrants and there is a minimum fundraising requirement of $200. Incentive gifts start at $200 and will include a Reach the Beach finisher medal and 2023 T-shirt.
  • Cycle Your Way: Plan your own ride on a route and date that works best for you. There is no registration fee for Cycle Your Way participants. You are eligible for the same incentive gifts as those who ride in-person on May 20th, starting with the finisher medal and T-shirt for raising just $200 for the American Lung Association.
  • Astoria Adventure Ride: For the first time, Reach the Beach is offering an Astoria Adventure Ride, ideal for families with younger cyclists and those looking for a shorter challenge in the saddle. This ride follows the Astoria Riverwalk Trail and offers riders a variety of activities to enjoy such as seal watching and visiting the famed Pier 39 and Maritime Museum. A $35 registration fee applies per person and the minimum fundraising requirement for individuals is $100. The fundraising minimum for families with up to 4 riders will be at a special rate of $200. Children 16 or younger must be accompanied by an adult 18 or older.

Why We Need You in the Fight

In March, the American Lung Association launched a $25 million initiative to end COVID-19 and defend against future respiratory virus pandemics. At the same time, we're continuing our advocacy work to support clean air and redoubling our long-term commitments to lifesaving research.
