That's me in the photo, from 2018. I'm looking forward to crossing the finish line again! Reach the Beach has been my favorite ride of the year since I started riding!!! I think my first time was 2001. My two sons had reactive airway disease and asthma as children; I started riding for them. Reach the Beach has been sponsored every year by Kaiser Permanente, and I'm a Kaiser member. That's how I found out about the ride -- in the Kaiser magazine -- and that's also how I found Portland Bicycling Club and joined in 2002!
On behalf of the American Lung Association, in support of those who struggle to breathe every day, I'm asking for your support – not for myself, but for ALA's education and advocacy efforts. Will you donate 25¢ per mile? I'm planning to ride from Vernonia to Astoria; that's 64 miles. If I'm successful and manage to reach the beach, your contribution would be $16.00.
