Last May, my Momma died unexpectedly, and although it wasn't lung cancer that took her life, she struggled with complications from COPD and Asthma for years prior to her passing away. At one point, her breathing was so compromised she almost missed my wedding ceremony. She just couldn't breathe. It was heartbreaking to witness my Momma who had always been so full of life, now barely able to sit up. So, this Mother's Day, I'm joining thousands of other cyclists and the American Lung Association to raise money to fight lung disease and increase awareness about the importance of lung health.
Lung disease can take someone's breath away, leaving them unable to work, exercise or play. Growing faster than almost any other major illness, lung disease, including lung cancer, asthma and emphysema is the third leading cause of the death in the United States.
