Melissa Kim is an English teacher and Social Emotional Learning Coordinator at Roosevelt High School in Hawaiʻi. She received a BA in English from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and a Master of Art in Teaching at Chaminade University. Her lifelong passion is to close the achievement gap in communities through equity, education, and empowerment.
Melissa shares that as a public school teacher, she believes in the value of education and its ability to empower a community. “The vaping epidemic in Hawaiʻi has caused lasting detrimental effects in our beautiful island home,” says Melissa. “The only way to combat this is through research, advocacy, and above all, education. The American Lung Association strives to educate people to lead better, healthier lives. I want to be a part of this mission and its impact.”
