Championing Lung Health with Aloha

The I Wear Turquoise campaign is an opportunity to imagine a world free of lung disease and raise awareness and funds to support research for better treatments and improved methods of early detection for lung disease.

In 2022, the campaign is focused on funding research for childhood asthma.

Asthma is a serious public health concern in Hawai'i and is the most common chronic disease in childhood. In 2018, 10.2% of Hawai'i children were estimated to have asthma compared to 7.5% of children in the U.S. as a whole. In Hawai'i, disparities in asthma prevalence are seen in race/ethnicity and region with Native Hawaiians being disproportionately affected by asthma and experiencing the greatest burden.

The I Wear Turquoise campaign is part of our LUNG FORCE initiative. Launched 5 years ago, LUNG FORCE is a nationwide initiative led by the American Lung Association to unite women and men to stand together against lung cancer.
