Support Investments that Improve Lung Health

Dear [Decision Maker],

As your constituent, I'm writing today to ask you to support investments that improve health equity, access to quality and affordable healthcare, clean air and a safer climate. You have a timely opportunity to build a healthier nation both now and into the future.

Now, I'm calling on you to protect my family's lungs for the long term. All people need quality, affordable and accessible healthcare and protection from unhealthy air pollution and the consequences of climate change. It's critical that you act to prevent these impacts and ensure access to quality and affordable healthcare in order to protect our lungs.

Please take the following actions to benefit lung health:

-Continue investments in quality, affordable and accessible healthcare by making permanent the increased generosity and eligibility for advance premium tax credits (APTCs) enacted in the American Rescue Plan.  
 
-Invest in the transition to zero-emission vehicles and heavy-duty equipment by including at least $20 billion in funding to accelerate the turnover of dirty diesel school buses to healthier, zero-emission buses to better protect kids from harmful pollution. Support the nationwide transition to electric vehicles with updates to tax credits and robust investment in a national charging infrastructure network. Reduce emissions from the nation's ports by transitioning to zero emission trucks, cargo equipment and port infrastructure, cleaning up the air for some of the hardest-hit communities.

-Invest in clean, non-combustion renewable electricity by setting a national clean electricity standard that places health and equity at the forefront and defines "clean" as wind, solar, geothermal and other renewable, non-combustion sources. Expand clean energy tax credits to further drive the transition to clean, non-combustion renewable energy.

-Ensure overall infrastructure investments reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution and prioritize cleanup in underserved communities. Investing in infrastructure is an opportunity to protect health from climate change that Congress and the nation can't afford to miss.

I strongly urge you to move quickly to pass additional legislation that protects my and my family's lungs into the future.
