Take Action Now to Protect Illinois Youth from E-Cigarettes

Clear The Markets Sweet, fruity and mint flavors are one of the main reasons kids start to use e-cigarettes. Our nation is in the middle of a youth e-cigarette epidemic, and sadly, we’re not surprised to learn that over 64% of students who used tobacco products reported using a flavored tobacco product in the past 30 days.

We need to take action now to protect Illinois youth!

Next week, lawmakers will introduce a bill to end the sale of all flavored e-cigarette products, including mint and menthol, in Illinois. Please email your local lawmaker to urge them to support this important law. We will continue to work with lawmakers to end the sale of ALL flavored tobacco products.

Please pass comprehensive youth tobacco legislation quickly

Dear [Decision Maker],

As your constituent and a volunteer with the American Lung Association, I'm reaching out to urge you to please work with your colleagues to quickly pass legislation to help protect our kids from e-cigarettes and vaping products. Restricting the sales of flavored e-cigarettes is a proven way to reduce e-cigarette use. We know flavors hook kids into a lifelong addiction to deadly tobacco products.

Ending the sale of all flavored e-cigarette products, which are designed for and targeted at our youth, is a logical next step for our state. Currently, there are more than 15,000 e-cigarette flavors on the market, and studies by the CDC and FDA tell us that over one third of all middle and high school students who use e-cigarettes say that the availability of flavors was the reason they started using the product. We must stem this public health crisis and stop the sale of flavored e-cigarettes.

I urge you to please work with your colleagues in the House and Senate to quickly pass a flavored e-cigarette sales restriction.
