Strength is defined as "the quality or state of being strong." Scott Selig epitomizes strength,. Scott has carved out a reputation as a "civic leader", an "industry leader", and an amazing all around individual and human being. Scott is not just a good guy, he is a GREAT GUY. Scott has always been a vision of strength and determination, however, October of 2016, was the beginning of a new journey for Scott when he was diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer that started in his lungs and metastasized to his brain and liver. Caught randomly during an annual physical exam, with no symptoms, Scott spent the first few days trying to process it and trying to answer the question, "why me?" "Never in a million years", says Scott, "would I have thought I would have been diagnosed with cancer." "I'm a healthy 47 year old that has always eaten well, exercised frequently, never drank much alcohol and for the most part lived a subdued life. "When I was told of my cancer, my life changed." Scott recognized that this was his life now but he was determined not to allow it to define his life. "I am strong, #SCOTTSTRONG, to say the least and I will prevail and become an inspiration to those who will unfortunately become members of this club."
Because of his influence on other cancer patients and the awareness he raises with his facebook #ScottStrong, Scott was nominated by Cancer Treatment Centers of America as "Hero of the Year" for the LUNG FORCE Turquoise Takeover reception hosted by the American Lung Association. In May Scott was bestowed the honor of the 2017 LUNG FORCE Hero Award for his continued courage, influence and inspiration to cancer patients and people around the world!
Team #SCOTTSTRONG is our way of showing Scott that he is not alone in his battle. He has an entire community of family, friends, neighbors, business partners, celebrities, and even strangers that rally behind him and his continued fight against cancer.
