Fight for Air Climbs are the American Lung Association's most unique fundraisers. Climbs take place in prominent skyscrapers, stadiums or arenas and involve walking, running or racing up hundreds of steps. Sometimes called a "vertical road race", teams and individual participants can use the event as a fitness target, as a race, or as a great way to be active and meet new friends. We know a lot about lung disease, but there is so much we don't know. Your participation will raise the funds necessary to provide lifesaving education, research and advocacy so we can beat lung disease and soon find a cure.

Online registration will end at midnight on Tuesday, February 20, 2018. Participants may register at Packet Pick-Up before the event. DAY OF EVENT REGISTRATION IS AVAILABLE for $45 for Climbers and $70 for Ultimate Climbers. To register once online registration has closed, please contact the local office at 217-787-5864.
Climbers have until event day to meet their minimum fundraising requirement of $100 per person. Climbers who have not met their fundraising requirement on event day will need to pay the outstanding amount in order to participate in the climb. Pledges made to the American Lung Association on behalf of climbers who cancel or do not participate in the Climb are non-refundable.
Those who make a self-donation raise twice as much as those who don’t, so make a self-donation today! A self-donation of $33 represents the 33 million Americans impacted from lung disease. Make a $33 self-donation today and receive the official Fight For Air Climb Earbuds (you will receive your Climb Earbuds when you pick-up your event day packet).

Participants will climb to the top of the Wyndham Springfield City Centre (32 Floors, 532 Steps).
Climb 32 floors to the top of the Wyndham Springfield City Centre as many times as you are able in one hour. Climbs are intended to be consecutive. Elevator time will not be recorded in your time. Your best individual climb will be eligible for awards and recognition in the Classic Climb awards. Due to space constraints, the Ultimate Climb is limited to 75 participants. Because of the limited space, participants who choose the Ultimate Climb take on certain expectations. While we do not want individuals to push themselves beyond their capable limits, this event is intended for individuals who are serious athletes and are therefore expected to climb more than once or twice.
If you are unable to attend the Climb or physically unable to participate, you can still raise funds for the American Lung Association's mission by registering as a Virtual Climber! All Virtual Climbers are invited to volunteer on event day! Family & Friends
Invite your family and friends to step up to the challenge with you and build a team of five or more. The fastest team will be awarded.
Corporate Team Challenge
Teams of five or more will compete for the title of fastest corporate team. The top two Corporate Teams will be recognized. Fuel the fun and competition in your work place by creating multiple teams!
Does your department have what it takes? Fire Department teams will compete for the title of fastest fire department. Firefighters climb in full gear (PPE, boots, tank, helmet, hood, etc.) excluding their ax. A traveling trophy will be awarded to the fastest firefighter team. Take home the trophy and bragging rights for a year with you. Your name will be engraved on the coveted traveling trophy! Find out more here.
All Fire (partial/no gear), Police, EMT's, and Military Teams will be eligible for general team and individual timing awards.
Gym & Fitness
Do you think your gym or fitness center has what it takes? If so, this challenge is for you! Teams of employees, trainers and members will come together to compete for the title of the fastest gym or fitness center.
Participants should arrive 45 minutes prior to the scheduled start time. Start times will be assigned in waves. Teams will be assigned the same wave. Only teams can be guaranteed the same wave time, though we try to accommodate as much as possible. A few minutes prior to their assigned start time, participants will be directed down the South stairwells to the Concourse level. Participants will line up for team photos in the Ambassador Ballroom before heading to the start line. The start line will be located in the Embassy Ballroom on the Concourse level.
Packet Pick-Up will be at the American Lung Association office. Packet Pick-Up is not mandatory, but recommended to collect your event t-shirt and day of event information and to skip this process on event day.
Please note that all fundraising must be raised and turned in by pick up. Each individual must pick up his/her own packet. A photo ID is required. If you cannot attend packet pick-up, all packets can be obtained on event day. All participants will receive a technical tee and a bib. Eligible participants will receive an Alumni Pin or a 5-Year Alumni Pin! Timing chips are located on your bib.
Your minimum fundraising, of $100 per person, is due when you pick up your packet.

Beat Your Time
After you make it to the top of Wyndham Springfield City Centre, make sure to stop at the Beat Your Time table to see if your climb time has improved from previous years (2017 l 2016). If it has, you will receive an official "I Beat My Time" ribbon to attach to your finisher medal!
Gear Check will be available to all participants on the day of the event. Please leave any valuable items at home, as we cannot be responsible for lost or stolen items at the event.

Signs will be placed in the stairwell for all climbers to see as they climb to the top. You will receive a commemorative sign in your packet. If you are a virtual climber, staff will mail your commemorative sign to your address on file.

Safety & Climber Etiquette
Trained medical personnel will be located in the stairwell, on the mezzanine level, and at the top of the building.
In the event that an emergency is reported in the building, you will be instructed on what to do over the P.A. sound system. Please wait for instructions, do not panic.
Water stations are located throughout the stairwells on different floors as well as the top.
Always announce your presence and your intent to pass the slower climber. Climb on outside of the person, on the right side.
