What is Reach The Summit ?

Reach The Summit is a mountaineering training and fundraising program benefiting the American Lung Association. Participants train to successfully summit a mountain of their choice (Mt. Rainier, Mt. Hood or Mt. Adams) while they raise awareness of American Lung Association's programs and activities through their individual fundraising campaigns. Reach The Summit is a once in a lifetime experience for the team members who join. The American Lung Association provides training, lodging, guides and technical equipment for the climb itself.

What do I do with the donations I collect?

You will need to send in your donations along with the Climber Donation Collection form (make sure to put your name at the top so we know whose account to credit).

  • Checks should be made out to the American Lung Association or simply ALA.
  • If someone makes a check out in your name, simply turn it over and write "Pay to the Order of ALA" and sign it in the endorsement block on the back, then send it in with the others. (Our bank won't let us deposit checks made out to you.)
  • Credit card donations can be made by completing the credit card form; or online by going to or to your personal web page (see below). Online donations go through a secure website.
  • Send company matching gift forms along with your donations. If the company has an online process for matching gifts, please send in a copy (paper or electronic) of the email verifying the donation and match so we know to give you credit for the matching gift.
  • You may also add any donations you receive to your fundraising totals by going to your personal web page and clicking on the Tools tab. You just need to enter the donations as pledges. Once the ALA receives your Climber Donation Sheet with the attached donations, we will turn the pledges into donations.

Remember to always keep a record of your donors and the amount they have donated so if there is a discrepancy with our records we know where to start looking for the error.

Can I ask my company or other corporations to sponsor me?

Yes, some companies will sponsor an employee for the entire fee; others will match your fundraising effort; while others will partially sponsor you if you have established a business relationship. It is advised to ask for fundraising early in their business year. Most companies plan their budget between October and December for the following calendar year.

Is a portion of the registration fee a donation?

No, although the registration fee will count towards your fundraising goal.

How can I see who has donated to me?

Click on the Login button on top right corner of the home page of the event. Use the Username and Password that you created when you registered your participant center. There will be a list of donors there. You may also view your personal web page. This page shows your current fundraising account balance and who has donated to you. It does sometimes take us up to a week to process checks you send in, but if your account balance doesn't look right to you, be sure to call and ask about it. Also, when an online donation is made in your name, you will receive an email from us telling you the name of the donor.
