My name is Robyn DeMartini and this is why I climb.
My family and I were personally affected by lung disease when my Nonno, George, was diagnosed with lung cancer. He was not a smoker, and so it was a great shock to my family when we found out that there was a tumor at the base of his lung. He went through surgery and painful treatments, but instead of being sad about the situation, my grandfather kept up his pleasant demeanor until the end. He passed away from lung cancer last year.
I’m a nurse now, part of the ISS department at UCLA Health. My co-workers invited me to join their team, ISS Climbers, at the American Lung Association Fight For Air Climb at the Aon Center. I’m climbing in memory of my Grandpa George, and to honor all others affected by lung disease. No one faces cancer alone. I invite everyone to join the Fight For Air Climb to help make a difference in the fight against lung cancer.
