  • 6:00 AM: Warm-up room available; Vertical Mile Check-in Opens
  • 6:45 AM: First person in stairwell - Vertical Mile Climb BEGINS
  • 9:00 AM: VIP Registration and Check-in Opens

  • 10:30 AM: Competitive Climb begins, followed by At Your Own Pace Climb

It is suggested that climbers arrive 30 minutes to 1 hour prior to their scheduled start time to check- in, retrieve your bib and timing chip, and stretch.

Registration Fees

Early Registration: The Registration Fee for ALL climb types, except the vertical mile, is $25 through December 31, 2016. In addition, all participants must fundraise a minimum of $100 to participate for a total of $125.

Late Registration: The Registration Fee for ALL climb types, except the vertical mile, is $35 from January 1 to February 12, 2017. In addition, all participants must fundraise a minimum of $100 to participate for a total of $135. On-line registration closes at noon on Monday, February 6th. Walk-ins will be accepted on the morning of the event.

Vertical Mile Registration: The Registration Fee for the VERTICAL MILE is $75 for all dates and has a fundraising minimum of $500 for a total of $575. All Vertical Mile climbers must contact ALA prior to registering.

Climb Options

NOTE FOR ALL TEAM CAPTAINS: When registering please make sure you select your team division type as well as entering your company name. Team Captains will choose the climb option for the whole team. If you have a team composed of both Competitive, Climb At Your Own Pace, Vertical Mile and/or Firefighter Challenge please note that you will not be climbing together.

CLIMBERS

  • Climber: Tackle the challenge of the Fight For Air Climb by walking, running or doing a combination of the two. Choose either Competitive Climb or Climb at your Own Pace. Fundraising minimum is $100.

    COMPETITIVE CLIMB: Register to race against the clock and other climbers in the competitive climb. You will climb up the Carew Tower 45 floors for a total of 804 steps. A typical competitive climber time is 5 to 10 minutes. Your start time will be approximately 10:30 am. All climbers must raise a minimum of $100 to participate in addition to their registration fee.

    CLIMB AT YOUR OWN PACE: Register for a personal challenge and see how you do. No pressure, no stress. Can you make it to the top? Attempt to climb up the Carew Tower's 45 floors for a total of 804 steps. We’ll still time you, just for fun. A typical own pace climber will finish in less than 20 minutes. Your start time will be approximately 10:30 AM. All climbers must raise a minimum of $100 to participate in addition to their registration fee.
  • Firefighter: Firefighters dressed in full gear ready to take on the Fight For Air Climb challenge. No civilians. Fundraising minimum is $100.
  • Law Enforcement: Police/Law Enforcement ready to take on the Fight For Air Climb challenge. No civilians. Fundraising minimum is $100.
  • Other Responders (EMT, EMS, Military): (No gear firefighters, EMT, EMS, Military)- Full time, part-time and volunteer fire (partial/no gear) EMTs, EMS and Military climbing in uniform, plain clothes, bunk, branch or station shirts. No civilians. Fundraising minimum is $100.
  • Vertical Mile (For those in top physical condition): Climb and descend the 45 floors to achieve one full vertical mile up and one full vertical mile down. You will climb 10 times up, 10 times down and then another 8 floors and 6 steps! Participants are given 3 hours to complete the challenge.

    All Vertical Mile climbers must contact ALA prior to registering.
  • Volunteer: This event could not happen without our amazing volunteers who join together to help make it so successful. We need help with working registration, monitoring stairwells, handing out water, awarding medals and much more!

 

Start Times

All Climber Start Times will be posted on the Fight For Air Climb website no later than Friday, February 10th. On the day of the climb we recommend you arrive 30 minutes to 1 hour prior to your start time for check-in. Check back here for official start times.

All Climbers are given start times, based on their funds raised in 2016 (Super Steppers & Summit Club Teams) and race selection. Start times are used to avoid congestion in the stairs and starting lines. All participants receive an official Fight for Air Climb medal when they cross the finish line and an official participant t-shirt (with the minimum $100 fundraising requirement). After the climb, you can take your medal and brag to your friends. You earned it!

Packet Pick-up

Packet Pick-Up is optional as all packets will be available on Climb Day. Climb Day Packets will be available for pick up during the sessions listed below. Please make a note as packets will not be mailed this year. Packets will include race bib, timing chip and T-shirt.

Only Climbers who have met or exceeded their $100 fundraising minimum qualify for Packet Pick-Up.

Climbers who have not reached their $100 fundraising minimum must turn in the remainder of their donations on climb day at the registration table. Climb Day Packets will be available to those climbers at that time.

Packets will not be mailed.

Fundraising

As a registered participant, you're responsible for raising a minimum of $100 to be eligible to climb. This is easier than you think! It’s as simple as asking 10 friends for $10. You can also utilize your personal fundraising page, which allows you to fundraise via email with the click of a "Send" button!

The Fight For Air Climb is all about the challenge. Climbers and teams challenge themselves to reach the top, raise money, beat the clock, and be the best. While raising money to fight lung disease is our top priority, we know all of our climbers and teams work hard to meet whatever challenge they set for themselves.

When do I find out my start time?

What should I bring on event day?

Please bring any fundraising dollars you have collected and not yet turned in. A list of specific Day of Event information will be sent to each participant via email the week of the event and additional information can be found on the Cincinnati Specific Climber FAQs. Most importantly, please bring a positive attitude and lots of energy!

What can I bring in the stairwells?

You may only bring inhalers, iPods, cell phones, MP3 players into the stairwell with you. There will be water stations in the stairwells. Due to building regulations, we do not allow participants to carry children while they climb in the stairwells.

Safety Procedures and Climber Etiquette

Safety: Trained medical personnel will be located in the Main Lobby and on Floors 21, 39 and 45.

Water Stations: Water stations are located in the Main Lobby and on Floors 10, 18, 21, 30, 36, 39, 42 and 45. Water bottles are not allowed in the stairwells, as it is a safety hazard.

Passing: Always announce your presence and your intent to pass the slower climber. Climb on the rail side of the stairwell. Pass on the left side.

Children: Please note that all climbers must be at least eight years old by event day in order to participate. Any climber under the age of 18 must climb with an adult, and must not be left alone under any circumstances. For adults who climb at a faster pace, please note that your child may not be left unattended while you climb. Please make arrangements accordingly. For your safety, and that of your child, child toting is not allowed.
