Step Up to the Challenge

Day of Event Details

Sunday  l  March 12, 2017

Fight for Air Climbs are the American Lung Association's most unique fundraisers. Climbs take place in prominent skyscrapers, stadiums or arenas and involve walking, running or racing up hundreds of steps. Sometimes called a "vertical road race", teams and individual participants can use the event as a fitness target, as a race, or as a great way to be active and meet new friends. Step up for lung health at the American Lung Association's Fight for Air Climb at the Wyndham Springfield City Centre on March 12, 2017.

Ultimate Climber
The Ultimate Climb is officially SOLD OUT for the 2017 Climb! Please contact staff at Maggie.Owen@Lung.org if you would like to be added to the waiting list. Note: You must be a registered participant for the Classic Climb in order to be added to the wait list.

Climb 32 floors to the top of the Wyndham Springfield City Centre as many times as you are able in one hour. Climbs are intended to be consecutive. Elevator time will not be recorded in your time. Your best individual climb will be eligible for awards and recognition in the Classic Climb awards. Due to space constraints, the Ultimate Climb is limited to 70 participants. Because of the limited space, participants who choose the Ultimate Climb take on certain expectations. While we do not want individuals to push themselves beyond their capable limits, this event is intended for individuals who are serious athletes and are therefore expected to climb more than once or twice.

Virtual Climber
If you are unable to attend the Climb or physically unable to participate, you can still raise funds for the American Lung Association's mission by registering as a Virtual Climber! All Virtual Climbers are invited to volunteer on event day! Contact the Special Events Staff at 217-718-6678 or via email at EventsIL@Lung.org if you are interested in participating as a Virtual Climber and/or volunteering.

Safety Procedures and Climber Etiquette

Safety & Climber Etiquette
To ensure the safety of all climbers and allow for the best experience, please pass slower climbers on the wall without the rail, and let them know you are coming from behind to pass. You should always climb on the rail side of the stairwell. Emergency teams will be located at the bottom and top in case you need assistance. Volunteers will be available at the water stations to notify them if you need help.

Emergency Procedures
In the event that an emergency is reported in the building, you will be instructed on what to do over the P.A. sound system. Please wait for instructions, do not panic.

Water Stations
Water stations are located throughout the stairwells on different floors as well as the top.

Passing
Always announce your presence and your intent to pass the slower climber. Climb on left side of the stairwell, pass on the right side of the stairwell.
