My name is James Phelan and this is why I run....
Running the Caesar Rodney Half marathon was, for me, a way to pay tribute to my loved ones who have faced lung disease. My mom, aunt and grandfather all died of lung disease. Such beautiful lives, gone too soon. I also have a cousin who is currently diagnosed with lung disease.
Many diseases of the lung are not a result of smoking. Like all organs of the human body, the lung is vulnerable to disease. It can happen to anyone, whether a smoker or not. I pray for the day when advanced treatments and cures are there for those that need them. That said, running CR was also a way for me to bring awareness to lung disease and to engage others to join me by raising funds to help the American Lung Association further it’s mission. A worthy cause given the American Lung Association is the leader in helping save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease.
That is why I run. I hope you will join me in believing we can all make a difference!
