The Trek Across Maine is right around the corner, and this marks my 7th year riding. This is also a special year as I will celebrate my 50th birthday on the Saturday of the Trek. This adds significant meaning to my passion to help raise awareness and pledges for the cause. Over the past six years, thanks to your generous contributions, together we have been able to raise a total of $74,222, and $17,400 last year alone, making a difference for us as well as the lives of our children and grandchildren. I thank you for your past kindness and once again ask for your continued support.
My mother’s courageous battle with COPD has been, and will always be, my inspiration for this event. To further honor my mother’s memory, the wonderful team at the American Lung Association has allowed me to choose my participant number, 608. This has special meaning to me as it is my mother’s birthday, June 8th. I am honored to wear this number throughout the Trek and thank the team at ALA for their assistance in securing this number to allow me to further honor my mother.
Each year, I am extremely moved by just how many family members and friends have a heartbreaking situation of a loved one afflicted by the disease. I have always had a picture of my Mom posted on my bike as I do this ride, and the last two years, I also carried a printed card with the names and dedications from my donors for loved ones they wished to honor. I was touched and humbled to receive such a huge outpouring of so many moving stories and lovely memories. I will continue this tradition and will be riding with names and dedications once again. If you would like me to carry one for you, please send me his or her name and any message you wish and I will gladly carry it for the 180 miles.
Please help me to reach my fundraising goal of $15,000 by making a tax-deductible contribution in support of my ride. Any donation you make will be much appreciated. There is no pressure to pledge, as there are a lot of causes and we simply can’t give to them all. I welcome any pledge amount if you are inclined to contribute. The ride takes place from June 17th through June 19th. The American Lung Association is asking for pledges by June 15th if possible, but they are welcomed through the end of July.
Thank you in advance for your kind consideration of my request. I truly appreciate all of your help and best wishes…as I need all the help and luck I can get.
With Warmest Regards,
Shawn L. Sabine
