Thank you for your past support and Eva and I are asking you to help us raise funds for the American Lung Association and the fight against lung disease. It is a pleasure to have the oppoturnity to participate in the Fight for Air Ride, cycling approximately 50 miles per day for three days from Crystal Lake, IL to Lake Geneva, WI and back.
Many of you may know about how my wife Carol died with cancer that had spread to her lungs. After hearing her horrible cough for months on end, and watching her exhausted after bouts of coughing, I was sure if I never heard another cough again it would be fine. You may not know that when Carol was first diagnosed with cancer she was pregnant with Eva, our youngest child. Eva was induced early to allow Carol's treatments to start as soon as possible, with the biggest concern being the development of Eva's lungs. It was due to the research into lung development and treatment, supported by the American Lung Association, that allowed Eva to grow and thrive. I'm riding in memory of Carol and in honor of Eva, and hoping that your donations will help others as I have been helped in the past. I'm especially excited this year as Eva is going to join me on the ride! We are fundraising together, and really appreciate whatever support you are able to provide. Please check out this (short) cool video from the American Lung Association that features Carol's story. https://youtu.be/bT1JbJwhHfw
I'm also riding in honor of a close friend, who despite his challenges with Alpha 1-antitrypsin deficiency (a disorder that causes emphysema and/or COPD) is a much stronger rider than I and serves as a great example. I'm also riding in memory of my father-in-law Bob who died from COPD.
You can join with Eva and me to help raise money to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease. It's a wonderful ride and we would welcome your company! We are also asking you to help by supporting our fund-raising efforts with a donation. Your tax-deductible gift will make a difference in the lives of many Americans who struggle to breathe! It is faster and easier than ever to support this great cause - you can make your donation online by simply clicking on the link at the side of this message. Any amount, great or small, helps in the fight against lung disease. We greatly appreciate your support and will keep you posted on our progress. If you'd prefer to donate via check, it can be made out to the AMERICAN LUNG ASSOCIATION. Please write my name in the memo line. It can be mailed to:
With your generous support, the American Lung Association is "Fighting for Air" through research, education and advocacy.
