On September 17, I will be "RIDING AROUND the SOUND", a 100 mile bicycle ride. This will be my 7th consecutive year participating in a fund raising event for the American Lung Association. My reason for riding continues to be to raise money to support the mission of the American Lung Association of Washington (ALAW). Your generous support in the past empowers me to participate in these events. Thanks to you, I have been one of the top fund raisers each of the past six years. These funds will be used to help save lives by providing for lung disease prevention and research, programs for improving air quality along with tobacco education and cessation programs.
I continue to dedicate my ride in honor of those people I know that have suffered from some form of lung disease. My hope is that the funds raised for the ALAW may help prevent others from suffering from lung disease.
Reducing the number of tobacco users is one significant way the American Lung Association is able to show great success. After having smoked cigarettes for many years, I quit 23 years ago. Making that change in lifestyle has been one the best things I could have done to improve my health. Quitting smoking was a huge challenge. The ALAW provides many tools to help smokers kick the habit like I did. Quitting will be a life changing experience that will be with them in every breath they take for the rest of their lives.
Your gracious donation to the 2016 RIDE AROUND THE SOUND® will help to support:
- Research into preventing lung diseases such as asthma, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, lung cancer, tuberculosis, COPD and cystic fibrosis.
- The pro-active fight against indoor and outdoor air pollutants.
- Reducing tobacco use, especially among young people, which is responsible for one in five deaths in the United Stated each year.
I hope that you will join with me in finding these issues important enough to support. Your generous and appreciated tax-deductible contribution to the American Lung Association of Washington,
