Introducing Jack Young: Our 2013 Fight For Air Climb Honoree
"When Jack was diagnosed with Children's Interstitial Lung Disease, or chILD, a type of rare lung disease which at this time has no known cure, we began searching the internet for groups and organizations for support. Our entire family has said that if there was any way that we could raise awareness for kids with lung disease, we wanted to do it. That’s when we found our local American Lung Association and The Fight for Air Climb. I knew this is was our chance to get out and do what we could to raise awareness for lung disease and cancer research for children and adults who are suffering every day. The American Lung Association's Fight for Air Climb is an awesome way to do this. We get to meet amazing families and hear stories of miracles and loss, but in the center of it all is an overwhelming desire that no one else should have to battle with or lose someone to lung disease or cancer.
Jack has been on high dosage steroid treatments for a year now and is showing considerable decrease in scar tissue and increase in lung function. Without this treatment, Jack would have to have a lung transplant to survive. We are praying that we can space his treatments out and that they keep working until he is big enough for a living donor transplant or miraculously complete healing of his own lungs." --Penny Young, Jack's Mom
