Why I Walk
MaryAnn Manning, R.N.
As a sister, I walk for my sister, Karen who is bravely battling lung cancer.
As a nurse, I walk for the many hundreds of patients that I've cared for who suffer from lung diseases.
As a TB nurse for the last 11 years, I walk for all Tuberculosis patients.
Each year 9 million people around the world become ill with active TB disease.
Each year, there are almost 2 million TB-related deaths worldwide.
This year is my walk for Karen and for a cure.

Knoxville
Walk Talk:
Stop and Drop: Watch for the coin canisters in Pilot
Convenience stores for Asthma Awareness month in May. Pilot is a new sponsor,
so stop by and drop in your change…or an extra $5. All money collected will go
toward the Walk.
Dodgeball Anyone: D-1 and the ALA
in Tennessee have joined forces for a
Dodgeball For Air Tournament in June at the D-1 Sports Training facility in Knoxville. The date is
still being finalized.
Form a company team or get a group of friends
together. The entry fee is $50 per person with 10 to a team. Registration
begins at 8:30 a.m., tournament starts at 9. The top three teams will receive
trophies.
Remember
these fundraising ideas:
Pizza Day:
There is still time to hold a
Pizza Day for your walk team. It’s a
great way to “rally” the team, enjoy some pizza, and talk about the walk. If interested, please contact Gail for
arrangements.
Paper Clouds are available to sell as a fundraiser
for yourself and/or your team. Suggested
selling price is $1 each, or 6 clouds for $5. Please save your clouds so we can
post them at the Walk.
Cool Wraps are also available to sell. The wraps are 100 percent cotton and have
cool beads inside that expand when the wrap is soaked in cold water. When the wrap is no longer cool, the beads
will shrink down to normal size. This reusable wrap is a great way to stay cool
on a hot day. Suggested selling price is
$5 each.
The Knoxville
Fight For Air Walk is a fun way to help out a great cause. Take a beautiful
stroll beginning at Volunteer Landing, learn about lung health, bring your kids
to the children’s area, and enjoy the demonstrations food and giveaways on
event day. We can’t wait to see you there!
For help with goal setting,
fundraising ideas, or if you need any walk materials, please contact Karen at

Lung
Disease Facts:
Lung cancer is the leading cancer killer in the U.S.,
killing almost 160,000 people every year, with one of the highest incidence
rates and one of the lowest survival rates. Lung cancer kills more U.S.
women than breast, cervical, and ovarian cancer combined!
About 20 million Americans have asthma. Asthma accounts
for an estimated 14.5 million lost workdays annually for adults, and is the
leading cause of missed school days for children.

Fundraising Tip:
To raise $100 per walker, ask 10 people for 10 dollars. Each individual responsible for raising $100
will receive the official Fight For Air Walk T-shirt.
