TB EDUCATION PROGRAMBasic TB Validation Course

This course is designed for healthcare workers who administer, read, and record Mantoux tuberculin skin tests.

The goal of the American Lung Association Tuberculosis Education Program is to ensure that each healthcare worker completing the Basic Tuberculosis Validation Course has received:

The education necessary to understand the history, pathogenesis, epidemiology, and diagnosis of TB Infection and Disease; especially as it relates to each person’s own professional and personal experience and needs;
The education necessary to administer, read, and record Mantoux Tuberculin Skin Tests (TSTs); and
Information about the current trends and concerns of TB Infection and Disease.

TWO SEPARATE STEPS must be completed in sequence in order to receive a Basic TB Validation Card that is valid for three years:

Complete the Tuberculosis Basics and TB Tests Used to Identify TB Infection online course. This includes:
- Viewing the entire online course material
- Viewing the CDC TB video (included in the online program)
- Passing the final 30-question test with a score of 80% or higher.
Within 60 days of completing the Tuberculosis Basics and TB Tests Used to Identify TB Infection online course and under direct supervision (in-person) of an American Lung Association TB Instructor, successfully complete the Basic TB Validation Check-off Sessions.

The TB Instructor will submit all Basic TB Validation Check-off Session rosters to the Lung Association, at which time the participant will receive their IN TB Basic Validation Card from the Lung Association. A fee does apply. This validation card is valid for three years.
